The Livingston County Sheriff’s Department, along with the Pontiac, Dwight and Fairbury Police Departments, have a revolutionary new policing program aimed at getting people suffering from addiction the help they need, instead of putting them in handcuffs. \u00a0The Livingston County Sheriff’s Department is changing the way they handle addicts who request help with their addiction to opiates such as Heroin, Fentanyl, Oxycodone, Percocet, Percodan and Hydrocodone as found in Vicodin<\/p>\n

<\/b><\/i><\/u>LIVINGSTON COUNTY RESIDENTS<\/p>\n

Any Livingston County resident who enters the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, Pontiac Police Department, Dwight Police Department or Fairbury Police Department and\u00a0asks for help with their addiction to opiates, will be placed into appropriate treatment plan.*\u00a0 Because of our priority preferences with our partners, we must limit the program to only Livingston County residents.<\/p>\n

The Safe Passage Initiative was created to help heroin and opiate addicts get into recovery.\u00a0 If you need help, or know someone who needs help into recovery from addiction, you just need to come to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office\u00a0and ask for it.\u00a0 We are here to help with the steps towards recovery.\u00a0 There will be some paperwork that needs to be completed and then you\u00a0may be paired with a volunteer who will help guide you through the process.\u00a0 We have partnered with treatment centers to ensure that our patients receive the care and treatment they deserve – not in days or weeks, but right away and have a path going forward.<\/p>\n

You can bring drugs or drug paraphernalia with you to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.\u00a0 We will dispose of it for you.\u00a0 You will not be arrested.\u00a0 You will not be charged with a crime.\u00a0 You will not be jailed.\u00a0 You will be directed to the appropriate treatment plan.<\/p>\n

If you are from Dwight or Fairbury and can’t get to Pontiac, go to your police department and arrangements will be made to get you to Pontiac.<\/p>\n
